CNA Classes In New Jersey

In order to become a Certified Nursing Assistant in New Jersey, candidates must undergo classes in the Nurse Aide in Long Term Care Facilities Training and Competency Evaluation Program (NATCEP). This program consists of 90 hours, which is broken down into 50 hours of classroom experience and 40 hours of clinical work. CNA programs and schools are all around the state. Candidates are able to bypass CNA classes and take the CNA exam if they meet a series of requirements while being certified to work in another state or if they have completed educational classes in the fundamentals of nursing.

New Jersey State Requirements for CNAs

Candidates for CNA certification in New Jersey must complete the Nurse Aide in Long Term Care Facilities Training and Competency Evaluation Program (NATCEP). This CNA course is 90 hours, consisting of 50 classroom hours and 40 clinical hours. Once completed, candidates may then take the CNA exam.

New Jersey CNA Exam Details

There are two sections of the exam – the skills evaluation and the written examination. There is also a compliment oral examination option in lieu of the written section. One unique aspect of the CNA exam in New Jersey is that it is required that candidates take the skill evaluation first. Candidates are notified within 10 days of taking their skills evaluation if they have passed and are eligible to move onto the written/oral examination. The written/oral evaluation consists of 60 questions and candidates have 90 minutes to complete. The skills evaluation is 5 tasks that must be completed with at least a score of 80% on each task. Tasks that are tested on may include Hand Washing, Ambulation with a Gait Belt, Placing Bedpan, Dressing Resident, Feeding a Dependent Resident, Foot Care, Making an Occupied Bed, or Denture Care.

The Skills Evaluation and Written Exam costs $76.00, the Skills Evaluation and Oral Exam costs $90, both in English and Spanish.
